Sport

Our Junior School and Middle School students enjoy specialist P.E. classes, utilising the Kondole Centre, our gymnasium that houses an Olympic size basketball court.

Outdoor spaces on site and within close proximity of our College also enable our students to engage in physical education programs and activities which challenge their abilities and promote teamwork, self-esteem and lifelong attitudes towards healthy lifestyles.

Encounter students are also able to participate in a range of SAPSASA and SASSSA events, including Athletics at Santos Stadium, Cross Country in the Adelaide Hills, basketball, netball and other team and individual pursuits.

Being active is promoted, enjoyed and valued at Encounter.

Elite Basketball Development Program (EBDP)

As of 2015, Encounter now offers an Elite Basketball Development Program (EBDP), open to all Middle and Senior School students.

We have entered a partnership with the Southern Tigers Basketball Club and Dean Nyberg, their Coaching Director, holds weekly coaching sessions for those involved in the EBDP. They also coach our SAPSASA Basketball teams in Years 5-7, meaning that younger students are able to access high quality coaching from an early age.

The EBDP  allows our young men and women who are performing at an elite level, or those who aspire to play at an elite level, to train intensively in their chosen sport under expert coaches and guidance.

Applicants for the program will need to be able to demonstrate their commitment to their studies as well as their chosen sport. An exciting aspect of the EBDP is the ability for students to pursue a pathway beyond Year 12 that could see them eligible for a fully funded scholarship at a College in America.

Encounter’s academic program will cater for the desired and varied pathways of students and will require a higher level of independence given they may need to work within a more flexible school timetable.
