SCHOOL SURFING
On Monday 3rd of June the Encounter Surf Team headed to round 3 of competition held at The Dump in Victor Harbor. Conditions were about as tricky as they can get. 2-3ft of swell with a howling south wind and temperatures that did not get above about 12 degrees. Despite this, for the second competition in a row Encounter achieved some of the best results we have seen in our two years of surf club existence.
Madi Cannell was a stand out for the day, making it to the final of U16 girls. Due to some late withdrawals, Leo Torok and Max Fancsali stood up and surfed in the Open Boys. Being significantly younger, both boys were ripping and carried the team through to the semi finals before coming unstuck to the eventual winners for the day.
Bailey Torok joined Arie Minenko for his first school surfing competition and the boys surfed impressively as they grovelled through some pretty slow heats to make semi-finals.
After coming from not having a surf team to consistently making finals, Mr. Ruiz and I are stoked! We’d like to also thank the support of the parents who regularly come to assist and support the students, and to Valentina Plisko for being our “official photographer.”
