INTENSIVE & DEVELOPMENT BASKETBALL PROGRAM YEARS 7-12
The Specialist Basketball Program has been established to assist interested basketball players to achieve at the highest levels of performance in their sport and to help develop their educational, emotional and social wellbeing. The program also provides structures and processes to support students accessing a range of post-school options, including overseas US Colleges. We currently are a certified provider of the SATs as administered by the US College Board. The program is structured as follows.
Name | Target Age | Annual Fee |
Intensive Training Program (ITP) | Year 9/10 Squad
Year 11/12 Squad |
$400 |
Development Program (DP) | Year 5/6 Squad
Year 7/8 Squad |
$150 |
The earlier phases of the program (DP) aims to help students experience and learn foundation movements that are required to better understand how to engage in both individual and team play. These essential movements and skills are initially centred around the individual, including footwork and balance, shooting form, finishing, and ball control.
As students’ progress through Year 9 they begin a more intense learning curve, with additional focus centred around the greater athlete. They will investigate how performance analysis, sports psychology, fitness testing, nutrition and physiotherapy (injury management) play an essential part in performance. While continuing with essential individual movements, students are exposed to more complex concepts to ready them for a variety of scenarios during game play.
The aims of the program are to provide players:
- Quality tuition from Great Southern Association and SA State Country Coaches.
- A flexible, supportive and “athlete friendly” academic environment.
- An academic program (Sports Science), offered to Year 9 and 10 students covers essential learning in the IB Middle Year Program and South Australian Certificate of Education.
- Wider competition & individualised training opportunities, matched to the athlete’s development and potential.
- Potential Interstate travel to compete in the Australian Schools Championships (ITP)
All participants receive 100 minutes on court over the course of the week. Students will take part in one 70-minute main session, with additional opportunities through one morning shooting session per week.
Support will be provided through the Intensive Training Program to assist students to balance their demanding schedules and achieve success at school as well as in their personal and sporting lives.
We are very excited about the development and future of our Encounter Basketball Programs and we thank our community for their ongoing support and involvement. If you are interested in knowing more please email troy.wegener@encounter.sa.edu.au to arrange a phone call or meeting.

SPECIALIST DANCE PROGRAM YEAR 7 - 12
The Specialist Dance Program is based on a training schedule supporting a whole year development model. As there is no off-season in Dance, physical conditioning is incorporated into all technique lessons. Through the analysis of dance theatre performance students learn about the choreography of local and international dance artists. Students also develop creative, technical and physical understanding and an appreciation of dance as an art form. They have the opportunity to explore a range of global dance traditions,
influences, and perspectives. The focus capabilities for this program are communication, citizenship, and learning.
The Specialist Dance Program consists of four areas of study:
- Technique
- Composition
- Performance or Presentation
- Analytical Response
The Specialist Dance Program will be given the opportunity to represent the school in both performances and competitions held locally.
Participation in this program is by invitation only.
