Hi, I’m Andrew Weiss and I am a new addition to the MS / SS Teaching team at Encounter.

I teach Senior Psychology and Biology as well as MS Science and Year 9 Christian Studies. My background includes completing a Bachelor Science (majoring in Physiology and Pharmacology) and then a Graduate Diploma in Education both at Adelaide University. While teaching I completed a Masters in Education focusing on Wellbeing and Pastoral Care. I have been teaching in Lutheran schools for over 20 years teaching a variety of subjects including Psychology, Biology, Nutrition, Science, Physical Education and Christian Studies. In 2010 I took a year off from teaching to work as an Education Officer for Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) the aid organisation of the Lutheran Church. This job involved visiting Lutheran schools to run workshops and ‘Awareness Days’ on poverty, refugees and sustainable development. This is something I am still passionate about. I am an ardent Brisbane Lions supporter, but I enjoy watching any type of sport. Travel is another passion of mine and I have been lucky enough to travel to many parts of Australia and the world including spending a couple of weeks in the refugee camps of Djibouti. I enjoy getting out into the outdoors or playing or listening to music when the opportunities arise. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Encounter particularly the community feel the College has. It is exciting to be able to teach using the MYP and the opportunities it gives students inquire and learn Science in a real-world context.

I look forward to being part of the Encounter community for many more years as it continues to grow.
