What a week of colour, creativity, and celebration! Book Week 2025 was one to remember across our entire school community as students and staff embraced this year’s theme, “Book an Adventure.”

Junior School

Our Junior School began the festivities on Friday morning with a special Shine hosted by our Year 2 students, followed by a Book Week Assembly. Every class, from Early Learning through to Year 6, had the opportunity to showcase their costumes while our Junior School Captains interviewed students to share the inspiration behind their chosen characters. The effort and creativity from students — and the support of families — was remarkable, with many sustainable and handmade costumes shining brightly. Teachers also joined the fun, not only dressing up themselves but decorating their classroom doors with book-themed displays that captured the imagination of students and visitors alike.

Middle & Senior School

The celebrations continued at our Middle & Senior School Assembly, where the number of students dressing up reached an all-time high! From laugh-out-loud characters to clever homemade creations, the costumes were a true testament to the enthusiasm of our students.

Year 12 – Class of 2025

Our Year 12s made the most of their final Book Week, delighting everyone by dressing as Toy Story characters — a classic from their childhood — bringing both nostalgia and creativity to the day. It was a playful and memorable way to mark their last chapter of Book Week at Encounter.

Staff Celebration

Of course, it wouldn’t be Book Week without our staff joining in the fun — and this year, they went all out! From classic storybook favourites to unexpected surprises, staff costumes had students doing double-takes all day. Their commitment (and enthusiasm) once again proved that Book Week isn’t just for the kids — it’s a community-wide celebration of the joy of reading and storytelling.

A Community of Readers

Across the week, Junior School classes, as well as Year 7s and Year 8s, enjoyed special Zoom sessions with authors and illustrators via the South Australian Public Libraries network, including Andy Griffith, Anna McGregor, and Jess Racklyeft. Alongside these sessions, students also participated in other Book Week activities and spent time in The Nest, further highlighting the wonder of stories and the power of imagination.

A huge thank you to our students, staff, and families for the extraordinary effort and energy you brought to Book Week 2025. It truly was a celebration that reminded us all of the adventures to be found in books and the joy of sharing stories together.

“The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives.”
