A new chapter for Encounter's Principal
By Sophie Ducrou | College Board Chair
Encounter Lutheran College today announced that Principal Mr Kelvin Grivell will conclude his 14 years of service at the College in early Term 2, 2026, having accepted the role of Principal at Cornerstone College, Mount Barker.
Mr Grivell, who has been only the third Principal in Encounter’s 25-year history, has played a pivotal role in transforming the College from a small primary school into a thriving Early Learning to Year 12 educational community.
“Kelvin’s leadership has been nothing short of outstanding. He has guided Encounter through a period of remarkable growth, while ensuring that student wellbeing, staff culture, innovation in learning, and community connection remain at the heart of our College,” said Sophie Ducrou, College Board Chair. “We are deeply grateful for his service and wish him every success as he takes on this new challenge.”
During his tenure, Mr Grivell oversaw the expansion of facilities including The Nest, Wurar Ruwi, the Wilderness Centre, and Lighthouse Early Learning, while embedding Encounter’s values of Thrive, Connect, Belong into the fabric of the school.
Reflecting on his time at Encounter, Mr Grivell said:
“These have been the happiest years of my life. Encounter is a special place, and I am proud of the way our community has grown together. While it is a big decision to move on, I feel confident this is the right change at the right time. I look forward to returning to Mount Barker, where my teaching journey began, and I will always carry Encounter with me.”
The College Board has commenced the process of appointing Encounter’s fourth Principal. Mr Grivell will remain in his role until early Term 2, 2026, ensuring a smooth and thoughtful transition.
“Encounter is well-positioned for the future, with strong foundations and a dedicated leadership team,” Mrs Ducrou said. “We will take the time to appoint the best candidate to build on Kelvin’s legacy and continue guiding our College into its next chapter.”
The Board expressed its gratitude to Mr Grivell for his tremendous contribution, noting that his leadership has empowered a generation of students to realise their unique potential.
