Running Together: Fraser Dash & Cross Country bring Wurar Ruwi to Life

With Wurar Ruwi as the backdrop, students from across the College came together for a morning of fitness, House spirit, encouragement and friendly competition at the annual Fraser Dash and Cross Country.

The morning began with the much-loved Fraser Dash, a race that was born from a wander and a wonder in Wurar Ruwi. One day, a young man called Fraser looked across the College’s outdoor learning space and asked, “How long would it take to get from that corner to the other corner?” He was in the right place at the right time, and a race - and a name - was born right there.

Today, the Fraser Dash challenges students in Years 4–12 to see just how fast they can make their way across Wurar Ruwi. Starting at the Wetlands corner on Strawberry Hill Road, runners choose their own path before finishing at the roundabout corner on Adelaide Road. The quickest route is up to them!

Taking top honours were Koa Allen (Year 8), who recorded the fastest boys’ time of 3:05, and Charlotte Barry (Year 8) and Lucy Hambour (Year 6), who both finished in 4:12 for the girls - an incredible effort!

Due to the rescheduling of the Fraser Dash and Cross Country following the weather conditions on the original date, our Year 12 students were unable to participate this year, as they were required to attend their normal scheduled classes.

Following the Fraser Dash, students took part in the Encounter Cross Country, an annual College event that promotes fitness, celebrates the benefits of exercise and builds connections across year levels through House teams.

Like Sports Day, students are encouraged to participate in their year-level group races, with the emphasis on getting involved, supporting one another and enjoying the experience. The event also provides a wonderful opportunity for students to engage with the beautiful outdoor spaces across our College in a fun, supportive and encouraging setting.

Congratulations to Rosetta House (Plonggi) for taking out the overall Cross Country with 454 points. Hot on their heels were Granite (Kaiki) with 347 points, Coorong (Kurrangk) with 337 points and Yilki with 304 points.

From those racing for the win to those challenging themselves to complete the course, every student who took part should be proud of their effort. A huge congratulations to all our runners, and a special thank you to the staff, volunteers and supporters who helped make the day such a success.
