Early Learning Bush School | Learning Comes to Life in Wurar Ruwi

Our Early Learning Kangaroos recently stepped into the role of teachers, proudly sharing their learning with their families during their Student Led Conference. As part of Early Learning Bush School and their Unit of Inquiry, Habitats Support Life, the children explored the wonders of Wurar Ruwi and discovered how habitats support the living things that call them home.

Our recent Student Led Conference celebrated the learning that has taken place through our Transition to School Program. Through our Unit of Inquiry, Habitats Support Life, the children developed an understanding of how habitats support living things, with a particular focus on the Australian bushland habitat. 

Using Encounter’s very own bushland habitat, Wurar Ruwi, as their classroom, the children investigated animal homes, animal features, and the ways habitats can change, learning through firsthand experiences, exploration and discovery in nature.

The Student Led Conference began with two Kangaroo students proudly introducing Indi the Inch Ant, our Inquirer mascot. They explained to families that an inquirer asks questions, wonders, investigates and discovers new information. Throughout the conference, the children demonstrated this attribute as they confidently shared their learning, explained their ideas and discoveries, and reflected on their learning journey with their families.

The conference provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to take ownership of their learning and share their ideas with their families. Through journals, books, artwork, dioramas and play-based investigations, the children showcased the curiosity, communication and thinking skills they have been developing throughout the year.

It was inspiring to see the children confidently leading the experience, answering questions and taking such pride in sharing their learning journey. We are incredibly proud of the growth, independence and enthusiasm our young learners displayed.
