Encounter Boys Basketball Thriller - Round 2 of the School Sport SA Division 1 Basketball Championships
By Rachel Grant | Head Coach - Basketball
What. A. Game.
Our Year 7/8 Boys travelled to Westminster College today for Round 2 of the School Sport SA Division 1 Basketball Championships – and it came down to the final second.
Despite a slow start and trailing by as much as 15 points, the boys dug deep. Some smart defensive adjustments and renewed confidence in attack saw them hit the lead with just 9 seconds on the clock. Westminster looked to have snatched the win back with 3.7 seconds left… but Encounter had one final play.
A cool-headed finish right on the buzzer sealed the victory in stunning fashion.
Now, our Year 7/8 Boys are off to the Division 1 State Finals Day in Week 9 – an incredible achievement placing them in the top 8 teams in SA.
They’ll be joined by our Year 7/8 Girls (through to the Division 2 State Finals) and the Open Boys (progressing to Round 2 of their Division 1 Knockout).
Special mention to the Open Boys and new coach (and Encounter graduate!) Oscar Eldridge – a strong showing with a win over Tatachilla and a tight battle against Concordia.
