Encounter Lutheran College was honoured this morning to host Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, along with Mr Bunten, as part of the Governor’s statewide initiative to visit schools and engage directly with young South Australians.
During her visit, Her Excellency spent time with a group of students from across the College, listening to their aspirations, answering their questions, and encouraging them in their learning and leadership. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to gain firsthand insight into civic leadership and the important role of the Governor within the South Australian community.
The morning began with a warm welcome from the College’s incoming 2026 College Captains, Brodie Cross and Lola Turner, who delivered an Acknowledgement of Country in both Language and English. This was followed by a lively performance by the Year 1–3 Junior School Choir, who sang Roof Rack to welcome Her Excellency to the College.
A highlight of the visit was a presentation from Year 6 students, who recently returned from their Canberra Tour. Students shared reflections on their visits to Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial, connecting their learning about Australian democracy and the history of the Governor’s role in South Australia.
Her Excellency then engaged in a wide-ranging conversation with students, who asked thoughtful questions about her daily responsibilities, her experiences living and working overseas, and how young people can contribute meaningfully to their communities. Her Excellency offered insightful and encouraging responses, reinforcing the importance of curiosity, service, and civic engagement.
To conclude the visit, Brodie and Lola formally thanked Her Excellency and Mr Bunten on behalf of the College community and presented a small memento to commemorate the occasion.
Principal of Encounter Lutheran College, Kelvin Grivell, said the visit was an inspiring experience for students and staff alike.
“We are incredibly grateful for the time Her Excellency spent with our students today. Her willingness to listen, engage and encourage young people has left a lasting impact on our College community. It was a privilege for our students to learn directly from someone who plays such a significant role in the governance and leadership of our state.”
Encounter Lutheran College expresses its sincere thanks to Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC and Mr Bunten for visiting and investing in the aspirations of young South Australians.
