Middle & Senior Music Showcase - What a night!
On Thursday 18 September, Encounter’s Middle & Senior School students filled the beautiful Newland Uniting Church in Victor Harbor with an evening of music, creativity and joy. The stunning venue, with its soaring acoustics and character, created the perfect backdrop for a program that celebrated the diversity of talent and learning in our music community.
The Showcase featured a wonderful mix of soloists, ensembles and original compositions. Shine Band opened the evening with Your Way’s Better, setting the tone for what would be a memorable concert. From Zoe Baker and Luke McLachlan’s smooth rendition of Fly Me to the Moon, to the Vocal Group’s energetic performance of What is This Feeling, the first half offered both variety and excellence.
Highlights included Angus Bruce and Oliver Dunkley with Cyclone, the trio of Cadence Tuesley, Maisie-Grace Davidson and Isla Palmer performing Creep, and Polly Pitt’s soulful Ain’t Got You. A particularly unique moment came with Monkeys in My Walls — an original composition by Darius Bickley, performed alongside Samson Lestar and Asher Stevenson.
After intermission, the concert continued with equally strong performances. Zac Pathuis impressed with Shadow Moses, while the Year 12 group delivered powerful renditions of In Bloom and Samson Lestar’s original composition All You Do is Leave. Senior Band closed the night with energy and flair, performing End of Beginning and Paper Moon.
The Showcase was especially significant for our Year 12 students, many of whom were performing for the final time as part of their Encounter journey. Their artistry, leadership and passion shone through, leaving a lasting legacy for younger musicians.
Sincere congratulations go to all students who took the stage, and heartfelt thanks to the staff, families and technical crew who supported them. The Middle & Senior School Music Showcase was a truly uplifting evening — one that reminded us of the power of music to connect, inspire and celebrate the gifts of our community.
