Encounter Year 11/12 Sapsasa Cricket team finish as State Runners-up!
By Justin Riggs | Outdoor Learning & PE
The Encounter Year 11/12 SAPSASA Cricket Team, supported by several talented Year 9 students, travelled to the West Beach Playing Fields on Tuesday 24 March to compete in the statewide Grand Final.
Their place in the decider was well earned, following impressive victories over Victor Harbor High School, Investigator College and Blackwood High School.
Facing a strong and disciplined Heathfield High School side, our team won the toss and elected to bowl. Heathfield posted a competitive 5/161 from their 20 overs. There were several standout moments in the field, including a brilliant run-out from a direct hit by Caleb Hood, along with excellent bowling performances from Reilly Weidenhofer (2/21) and Corey Allsop (2/16), both delivering high-quality four-over spells.
Chasing 162 - significantly higher than totals required in previous matches - was always going to be a challenge. Heathfield backed up their batting performance with disciplined bowling, and early wickets made the task even tougher. Despite the difficult position, the lower-order batters showed admirable determination and spirit, fighting hard until the final wicket fell, with the team dismissed for 59.
Although the result didn’t go our way, the team represented Encounter with pride, resilience and a positive attitude throughout the entire campaign. Their journey to the Grand Final remains a fantastic achievement and a testament to their teamwork and commitment.
