Sports Day 2026 – Granite breaks the drought!

One of the most anticipated moments of the day was The Encounter Gift – a treasured Sports Day tradition where students from Year 1 through to Year 12 proudly represent their Houses in an exciting baton relay. It is always a highlight to see students from across different year levels and sub-schools coming together to support their teammates and celebrate House pride.

Congratulations to all competitors for their enthusiasm and effort, and a special well done to Rosetta House, who took out both the Boys and Girls Encounter Gift races in two thrilling finals.

The biggest headline of the day, however, belonged to Granite House. For the first time since 2012, Granite claimed the Sports Day title once again, ending a 13-year drought and writing a new chapter in Encounter history.

For many of our Old Scholars, this result carries extra significance. The Class of 2024 (Foundation students in 2012) were the last cohort guaranteed to have witnessed a Granite victory during their time at Encounter.  This means students who began Foundation from 2013 onwards have gone through their entire schooling without ever seeing Granite win Sports Day… until now!

This year’s Sports Day also marked a special moment in the history of the event. As a fitting tribute to our Principal and long-time Sports Day announcer, the former shield has now been replaced with the Kelvin Grivell Sports Day Cup. For many years, Mr Grivell has been the voice of Encounter’s Sports Days, bringing energy and excitement to the occasion.

Congratulations to Granite House, the winners of the inaugural Kelvin Grivell Sports Day Cup – a memorable achievement that will long be remembered by the House community.

2026 Final Results

  • 1st – Granite House: 2,188 points
  • 2nd – Rosetta House: 2,086 points
  • 3rd – Yilki House: 1,817 points
  • 4th – Coorong House: 1,772 points

Sports Day Statistics Since 2001

  • Rosetta House – 11 wins (most successful house)
  • Granite House – 7 wins
  • Yilki House – 5 wins
  • Coorong House – 3 wins

Granite’s victory in 2026 breaks the longest gap between wins in House history, a 13-year drought since their last title in 2012. The House also enjoyed a remarkable golden run in the past, winning four consecutive Sports Days from 2009–2012.

Congratulations to Granite House on an unforgettable comeback, and well done to all Houses for contributing to another fantastic Sports Day at Encounter.
