Wakakirri 2025 − A Night of Celebration and Success!
By Kym Koop | Performing Arts Coordinator F-6 & Performance Coordinator F-6
On Tuesday evening, 34 talented performers from Years 4–6, supported by a crew from Year 7, proudly represented Encounter Lutheran College at the Norwood Concert Hall for the 2025 Wakakirri Festival.
After weeks of rehearsals and months of preparation, our Wakakirri team arrived with hair, make-up, and costumes ready, and a buzz of excitement in the air.
Following an afternoon of full dress rehearsals, our team took to the stage to present their captivating Story-Dance to a packed audience. Wakakirri is a national storytelling and dance festival designed to inspire and engage students, offering them a platform to express their ideas, passions, and aspirations through performance. This year’s entry reflected our students’ creativity, teamwork, and dedication, capturing the hearts of the crowd and the judging panel alike.
We are thrilled to share that our Encounter Wakakirri team achieved outstanding results, taking home an incredible four awards:
- Creativity Award – Recognising the originality and imagination in our performance.
- Ensemble Award – Celebrating the unity, timing, and teamwork of our cast.
- Production Award – Acknowledging excellence in staging, costuming, and overall presentation.
- Spirit of Wakakirri Award – Honouring our students for their encouragement, sportsmanship, and supportive behaviour toward other schools.
These achievements are a testament to the hard work, passion, and commitment of our students, as well as the dedication of our staff and volunteers who guided and supported them along the way.
Congratulations to our performers, crew, and everyone who played a part in this success. You truly embodied the spirit of Thrive | Connect | Belong—and we couldn’t be prouder.
